I have long struggled trying to find the right system to use in teaching my son responsibilities and household skills. Finding the right system with rewards that could be adjusted to reflect his work and attitude while being instant. I also had to have something that could be adjusted at will. Where chores could be added or taken away as we developed it's use. Then of course I wanted consequences. Nothing seemed to fit all of these needs, at least not cheaply, so I developed my own system based off of a handful of ideas I saw online.
There's nothing pretty about it, yet. But the bones have to be developed before we work on style. On envelopes I simply wrote down the basic of chores I want my son to do. I included an envelope for manors and one labeled "extra" just in case something would pop up.
Then I created the reward and consequence part of the system. I used printer card stock that was precut for postcards since they were literally laying at my feet. I assigned a value to each one with 1-4 points and placed that many stickers on each card. Then i color coded them to make them a wee bit more special. Later on if this system works for us I'll be dressing them up and probably laminate them so they'll last as we add in our other child when she's ready.
The basis of the system goes like this. Everyday every envelope should be addressed. Either with help or by himself. After the task is completed both the job and attitude during the job will be evaluated and then rewarded. 1 point for just getting the job done, 4 points for on his own and a happy graceful spirit. Everyday the point cards will be gathered into the "this week" envelope. This leaves the chore envelopes blank for the next day reminding him what needs to be done. At the end of the week he can cash the cards in for money or for video game time. But if he fails to do a job with a good attitude or if it's a battle I can take points away equal to the "crime".
Okay so it might not be the world's easiest chore chart system, but to me it's easier than check marks and printing out list every week. We're just starting it but if you have questions please feel free to ask.
ps. the spelling errors on the envelopes have been fixed, lol. That's what I get for doing things with a minor migraine helping me out.

That sounds very usable. I might have to see if that will work for us.
